Outdoor Recreation And Camping And Survival Food Supplies

I began my camping as a spare time activity just a few years ago. Initially, I was shocked by the cost of outdoor camping furniture. Even though it is possible to look for cheaper camping gear, somehow it is quite tough to come by. Camping gear outlet try to promote everything to you. These include trying to sell you the latest outdoor clothes, high-tech sleeping bags, synthetic thermal underwear or whatever they can think of. It does make sense . But, what I didn't know those item being promoted is only really necessary for difficult and advanced camping trips which falls under emergency survival supplies. If you understand what you really need and what you can make do without, my dear friend, you can save a lot of money. Thus, making wise purchases will definitely help you to enjoy your camping trip even more.

A good friend of mine who I called “serious outdoors guy” stated that the top two vital stuff for hiking trip are hiking and sleeping. This might sound obvious, yet, many people don't really follow it through to its conclusion. Let me describe further. You need outdoor camping equipment that helps you to hike and that helps you sleep. Meaning that a hiking trip starts with your boots. Hiking boots are vital. You shouldn't compromise any expense on your hiking boots. You need shoes that are heavy and padded enough, yet comfortable to walk in. You also need a comfortable sleeping bag. You can get cold at night – especially if you are up in the mountains. It is definite a worth investment in a good one. Here’s the advice. You are advised to look for a sleeping bag that is rated to 10° lower than you ever expect it to get.

Next, you need a great jacket. There are a lot of outdoor camping jacket that designed to keep you warm. A thermal jacket is a great investment as you can wear it when you are not camping as well. They are great-looking and well made. Most of them are getting more and more popular in urban areas. For your information, you don't needs serious outdoor shirts for every step of the day. What you need is to get one with a cotton T-shirt, khaki pants, and boxers or thermal underwear. You need not to buy those high-tech thermals either. Plain cotton ones work well except you are on an extremely tough and demanding trip. Though cotton doesn't really make the best outdoor camping stuff, it is fine for most role. Lastly, you need a good backpack. If you are just going for few days, you don't need to buy an uneconomical one. Any longer, however, and you'll be happy to have a good internal frame hiking outdoor camping backpack. If you need more solutions, you can always hop online for further research on camping checklist. Enjoy your camping.

Plan For Safety As Top Priority For Your Rugged Camping Experience

Camping can be a great deal of fun; however even when having all that enjoyment you still need to do it safely. Although chances are good that nothing will go wrong, you want to make sure that you are prepared if it does.

That is why you should abide by these tips for remaining safe while you are camping, even if you're bringing along an RV.

Safety First

First, you should never go camping without a complete first aid kit. It may seem insignificant if you get a tiny cut, but with all the dirt, leaves, and water you will be touching it is in your best interest to have at least a band-aid to cover it up.

You should also carry a first aid kit to help with any allergic reactions, such as bee stings. Bring antiseptic, pain relievers for everyday headaches, and even a snake bite kit if you are going somewhere that is rather remote.

Be Sure You have Essentials

When camping, carry your basic camping equipment, such as flashlights to get to the bathroom at night. Along with this, it is imperative to carry a hunting knife, a whistle in case you get lost, fire starter for the same reason, warm clothing, and food even if you do not plan to stay overnight. You never know when you might get a little off the beaten track and need extra essentials.

Checking the weather before you leave for your camping trip is extremely important. Even if there is just a slight chance of rain, you should be prepared with waterproof clothes and a tent, as well as waterproof matches to light a fire if you need it.

When you first get to the camp site, check around for potential hazards. That includes uneven terrain nearby that you may walk over at night when it is difficult to see, as well as any beehives in the vicinity of your camp site.

You also want to make a quick check for any poisonous plants that may be in the area in which you are sleeping so that you can avoid settling near them.

Once on the Campsite

Most campers eventually light a fire, and although camp sites usually have a specific fire pit for your use, make sure that it is safe. Keep all flammable objects - including dry leaves - well away from the fire, and don't allow your personal belongings to get any closer than 12 feet because of sparks that may jump out of the fire.

This includes your tent and clothes. And speaking of dangerous fire, you should never use candles or heating devices inside your tent at any time.

Lastly, you need to use common sense for your entire camping experience. Just because you are on vacation doesn't mean that you should take a vacation from safety! This includes disposing of your garbage in the proper bins since garbage can attract unwelcome animals that you simply do not want anywhere near you.

Don't panic if something negative does happen during your camping trip. As long as you are prepared for most typical camping dangers, you should be well positioned to handle it.

Helpful Info for Exciting Camping Trip

Are you looking for a fun and cheap vacation? Then camping can be the best choice. Camping is a great way for the whole family to chip in and participate. The kids can go catch fish for dinner, or help set up a tent. Camping only costs about $400 if you have camping gear, but if you need camping gear, then plan on spending at least $600 dollars more. But in any case you will save a lot and pay for a family of 4 for under $1,000 dollars.

There is so much to do when camping, like hiking, fishing, etc. Some camping grounds even offer swimming and show movies at night. Another great camping perk is watching the sunset or start glazing. Since most camp grounds are away from city lights, the stars will be amazing.

You need to plan a camping trip, like all other vacations. You firstly have to decide on shelter. Are you using a tent, a RV or a cabin? A tent would be the best for first time or light campers. Tents only cost between $60-$200 dollars. They provide protect against bugs and rain. A sleeping bag would be the next thing, you need to keep warm at night. Plus, taje care of a pad. Pads are soft and bring comfort to any camping trip.

Food is the major camping item. Depending on what your planning to eat, you can bring a variety of things. The most basic is a cooler and a bag of charcoal. Cooler for drinks and charcoal for a grill. You can make basic camping food such as steaks, ribs, hot dogs and hamburgers. If you plan on making dishes then you can bring a propane stove and a skillet. With it you can make a lot of stove-top meals.

It is good to plan a few months ahead to make your camping trip run smoother. It may not seem like that much goes into a camping trip, but after just figuring out what to bring, it begins to be over welling.

Figure out everything you're going to need and write it down. There's nothing worse then getting to the camping ground and realize you forgot to pack a tent.

A typical camping inventory

1. A tent. You can find tents in various sizes.

2. Sleeping bags and an air mattress.

3. Flashlights with extra batteries.

4. Matches

5. Because you'll be cooking on an open fire make sure that you bring some old cookware. You can also purchase camping cookware sets.

6. Firewood.

7. First aid kit.

8. Drinking water

9. Trash bags. Regardless of where you decide to go camping one of the most important things is that you leave the area just as he found it. Pick up your trash and take everything with you that you brought. Don't ruin the experience for the next person.

You can also look for an example of the inventory on a Coleman camp gear package. This is not an ultimate guide, but very helpful to understand what you need.

Camping can be a wonderful activity for the whole family. By taking a little time to prepare for the unexpected you will ensure a great time for your family.

Camping Safety Guide For Beginners

Are you one of those people who like me can't afford a vacation abroad? Or at least not as often as you'd like. Fear not, there are some great alternatives and one of them is to go on a Camping Trip!
This will allow you to spend time in nature as well as discover new places.

safe camping
Camping can be great fun, but the basics are often overlooked. Follow these six essential camping tips and you're off to a good start!

Let someone know where you're going - An accident in the middle of nowhere can turn out really bad if nobody knows where you are, or that you're missing in the first place. “Jimmy wasn't at Karate today? He's probably out sick” - meanwhile Jimmy broke 2 legs in the middle of nowhere with no rescue in sight.

Water - Water, the building blocks of life. You would be surprised how many people tend to oversee the fact that a lot of campgrounds don't have running water (unless you consider a river running water). It is highly advisable to take at least 2 five-gallon containers with drinking water when spending more than a few days out in the outdoors. A few gallons will do if you're only going for 1 or 2 days.

Bring Food - Bring your own food as not every campsite has a store, some not even without an hour's driving range. Nuts, beef jerky, dried fruit, as well as high energy bars are your best choice because they are high in nutrients but light in weight. See the camping guide for beginners for more "what food to bring"-tips.

Mother Nature is unpredictable - The sky might be clear and temperatures might be comfortable today, but that can change overnight or even within hours. Before going on a camping trip, check the weather forecast. It would suck to have nasty weather ruin your camping trip wouldn't it?

Extra Clothes - If you've ever experienced hypothermia you know how terrible it is. You can get it very easily by running around in wet clothes. So bring extra clothes just in case you get caught in a storm. Don't forget to put your spare clothes in a WATERPROOF bag too.

These tips barely scratch the surface of a safe camping trip. You can find details as well as additional tips on camping safety, planning a camping trip, what to pack, what tent to bring on my camping-site.

Solar Panels | Solar Power

Recent developments in solar technology have now put solar power within the reach of everyone.

Until a few years ago, solar panels were relatively bulky, inefficient, and rather heavy to lug around - and, on top of all this, very expensive. In other words, not very practical for the average person.

Solar Power and solar technology have advanced rapidly in the last few years. It and has come to the point where the use of solar energy is within the reach of the average person.

You can now buy relatively inexpensive lightweight portable solar panels (or portable solar chargers, as they are sometimes called) that will recharge your cell phone, iPod, MP3 player, or any from a host of other small electronic devices. There are even some medium size portable solar chargers that allow you to recharge your laptop batteries. And some even will run your laptop.

In effect, you could move your office to the beach if you wanted to, set up a portable solar panel and power your laptop with solar energy right at the beach. Your boss might however disagree and in any case you might want to make sure that your laptop screen is not overly reflective.

In the field of portable solar power, we have two different type of solar chargers. Both of have their uses and advantages.

There are two types of portable solar battery chargers on the market. Both come in different models and sizes.

There is the portable solar battery, which has rechargeable batteries built into the it; and there is the portable solar battery charger that simply comes as a small foldable or flexible solar panel that stores easily.

Solio manufactures the type of Portable Solar Battery Charger which uses internal rechargeable batteries. The advantage of this type of solar charger is that you can let it sit in the sun and collect solar energy, which it uses to recharge the internal batteries, and once the internal batteries are charged, you can hook up your cell phone, iPod, MP3 Player, or whatever electronic device you want to recharge and charge it. You can also operate your device directly form this portable solar charger.

As the solar energy collected is stored within the internal batteries you can use it any time of day whenever and wherever. An additional advantage of this type of solar battery charger is that they usually also allow you to charge it from regular wall sockets and sometimes even from your cigarette lighter socket in your car or vehicle. So you are not dependent just on the sun. Technically we would call such a solar device a hybrid solar charger, as you are able to charge it from more than one source of energy.

The other type of solar charger/solar battery charger, is simply a small Portable Solar Panel that can be either folded, or rolled up. These tend to be more powerful than the previously mentioned type and lighter to carry around. Due to their larger power output these can be used to power or recharge larger electrical devices such as laptops, radios, small TVs and coolers.

This makes them an ideal accessory for a beach party or a picnic. A small portable solar charger would be enough to power a cooler to keep your food fresh or the beers cold. I am sure we will see some coolers coming out shortly that have built in solar panels to operate them. As the solar panel would most likely not need to be larger than the lid itself and could be incorporated into the lid of the cooler.

Such panels in even in small sizes provide enough solar energy to power Ipods, MP3s and cell phones and lots of other small devices. So if you are spending the day on the beach this would most likely cover all your electrical needs.

If you have any questions as to how powerful a solar charger needs to be in order to run a particular device, please see Portable Solar Power Guide.

Camping Info

When you were a kid did you ever get a bunch of friends together and set up a tent in the backyard and pretend you were camping? You and your friends thinking it was hysterical when you told your sister that it was for boys only and she could not play and ran away crying. Or at least it was funny until mom found out. Did you ever go backpacking in the mountains? Or, hiking in a forest? What images does it bring to your mind?

Many kids enjoy going to summer camp so they can hang out with a bunch of other kids and tell ghost stories around the campfire while everyone pretends they are not really scared. You can't admit you are actually afraid because that's not cool and they may make fun of you. Yet you are already thinking about the camping equipment you may need for next summer and starting your camping checklist, as well as planning your revenge for the year before.

Is this the year that you and your family are going to load up a camper van or something similar, gather any and all camping equipment that you will need and head for the hills on a great camping vacation? Depending on the time of year, you may need campground reservations, so it is a good idea to plan ahead and call just to be safe.

If you are planning to travel to the great outdoors in an RV camper, then plan ahead and find out if any of the locations you plan to camp in have restrictions in place. They may not allow motorized vehicles of any kind, or maybe there is day use only and they have no overnight accommodations available. This type of planning helps to avoid what could be a huge problem for you, not to mention having to deal with "are we there yet?" from the kids. If you have not already decided where you plan to go, then consider a lake campground where there will be swimming, fishing or just relaxing options for everyone. Remember to call and double check on what, if any, restrictions are applicable for the locations you plan on visiting.

Sometimes, despite all the planning, something may go wrong or happen unexpectedly. Which is why traveling in an RV has some advantages. If you are unable to find a family campground or anything else acceptable, then you already have all the equipment that you need, so you can choose to keep going until you find something or stop for the night and continue your camping vacation in the morning. What could be better than a new adventure each and every day? Don't worry about the kids, they will have a blast.

The Use of a Solar Charger

Portable Solar Power Devices

Today’s electronic age provides thousands of new opportunities for people of all walks of life.

This includes writers, travelers, photographers, backpackers, and even mountaineers who may be far away from a power supply when they need to use their digital cameras or other electronic equipment. Along with the new possibilities and horizons brought about by the digital age, come certain challenges.

One of these challenges is – “how can I use my electronics when I’m deep in the wilderness?”

One method of meeting this challenge is the use of solar chargers.

But if you are looking for a portable solar power, you might feel confused about all of the different shapes, sizes, versions, and ratings of the various items available.

You might want to know how long it will take for a solar cell to charge your camera or batteries. Or whether or not your power supply will allow you to run and charge your laptop at the same time.

Which type of solar charger is correct for you, and how much money do you really need to spend?

To make the predictions and estimations necessary, and to choose the correct device to suit your needs, it will probably be helpful to have a little bit of knowledge concerning electricity.

Here is a common question:

What is a Watt and How Many do You Need in a Solar Charger?

First of all – what is a watt? (Pun accidental!)

A watt is a unit of electrical power, equal to the power produced by an electric current which has one ampere and one volt.

A watt-hour is a unit of electrical energy, equal to the energy of one watt operating for one hour.

A milliwatt (symbol mW) is one thousandth of a watt. A milliwatt-hour is equal to the energy of one milliwatt operating for one hour.

A fully charged battery contains a certain number of watt-hours or milliwatt hours.

Today solar powered battery chargers exist on the market, which use the power of the sun to charge a battery in the sun, during the day. The battery can then be used (day or night rain or sun) to run or charge your other electrical equipment.

Now, lets say you have a solar panel which you can use to charge a backup battery, and you can use that backup battery to charge your equipment. You want to know how long the backup battery will last, when you are using it to run one of your devices.

You can make an estimation of this, if you can find out how many watt-hours or milliwatt hours the fully-charged backup battery contains, and if you can find out approximately how many watts or milliwatts your equipment uses per hour.

Let’s take the example of a laptop computer.

1. With your battery fully charged, turn on the laptop, and then unplug it. Look at the power meter to find out how many hours your battery will last. (You might want to test the accuracy of this data, by using the laptop on only battery power and seeing how long it runs.)

Let’s say that you can run your laptop for 8 hours on battery power. (Remember the amount of hours it runs will probably vary, depending on your power settings for the laptop and what you are doing with it. But you can try to find an average.)

2. Now turn the laptop off and take the battery out. Look at the data written on the back of the battery, and try to find out how many watt-hours or milliwatt-hours that battery contains.

In our example, it contains 80 watt-hours. Divide that number by the number of hours you found in Step 1 above.

80 divided by 8 equals 10.

So we estimate that the laptop uses approximately 10 watts per hour.

3. Now find out how many milliwatt hours your solar battery backup contains, when it is fully charged (these backup batteries are often used in conjunction with solar battery chargers). You can usually find this in the specs of the item, where it is advertised (if you haven’t purchased it yet).

In this example, let’s say the fully charged backup battery contains 60 watt hours.

Your laptop uses approximately 10 watts per hour.

60 divided by 10 = 6.

Theoretical conclusion – if you charge your laptop from a fully-charged solar backup battery, it will run for approximately 6 hours.

But there are several other factors which influence this. This includes the settings of your laptop, what your laptop is being used for and how hard it has to work, how old your battery is, the temperature in which your battery has been stored, and probably some other factors only understood by God.

4. Now, not to thoroughly confuse you, but what if you don’t have a solar backup battery, but you have a solar charger for your laptop? And what if you want to know how much “sun time” you will need, to run your laptop for a certain period?

It’s impossible to say exactly, there are variables.

The amount of power generated by the solar device depends on the intensity of the sun, how much impediment there is to the sun, and the length of exposure to the sun.

The charger will create more power in the middle of the afternoon, than it will at other times of the day.

Your solar charger will create more power when it is closer to the equator, than it will in far northern or southern regions of Earth.

Your charger will also create more power on a clear day than it will in cloudy, misty, or dusty conditions.

But if you want to make an estimation, try the following.

Find out how many watts your solar-powered device produces under full sun.

Then look at the power adapter of the equipment that you want to charge. Under the output rating, it should state a certain number of watts. If it doesn’t give the watts, it should give the amperes (amps) and the volts.

Multiply the amps times the volts, and you will get the watts:

Amps x Volts = Watts

We will say, for example, that the output rating is 60 watts.

Remember, that’s the maximum amount of power that your device will use. It does not mean that it will always use that amount of power.

When the laptop is turned on, and when it is operating and charging the battery at the same time, it uses more power than it does when it has less work to do. It may have power-saving options which allow it to use less power. It will also probably use less power if it is only charging the battery but is not turned on (or if it is turned on but the battery is already full).

To estimate how long it will take to charge your battery (under full sun) use the data on the output rating of your adapter.

If the output rating is 60 watts, and your solar charger gives 15 watts, you could estimate that it will take the solar charger 4 times longer to charge your battery, than it would take to charge it from a wall socket.

So… if charging your battery takes two hours from the wall socket, then charging it from your solar charger under the same conditions (and under full-sun) would take 8 hours.

Remember that full-sun (if it occurs) only occurs in the afternoon, and it does not usually continue for an 8-hour stretch (unless maybe you are in the Sahara). Furthermore there are atmospheric conditions (such as dust or haze) and other factors (such as latitude) which influence the strength of the sun. So you will have to make allowances for this.

And… the ultimate test? Get your solar panels and your equipment, go up on a mountain top, and see what happens. (Or, maybe you can try it in your backyard first.)

Solar energy is still a pioneer field!

It shouldn't be, because it has been around for so long. But some people would prefer to complicate their lives by destroying the atmosphere and running up big electrical bills. So solar energy hasn't taken off as fast as it should have.

The information above is to help you choose which portable solar device will best suit your needs. Once you have obtained it, experimentation will tell you in the end, what results you can achieve.

And - who knows, portable solar power devices may some day become much more powerful. Solar energy may someday be an element of a better future for all of us, and a key to a cleaner world.

Future development may make it efficient enough to replace the use of fossil fuels, which are creating the pollution that is so damaging to this planet. Some individuals on this earth may not want this to happen (if they are making a lot of money from fossil fuels).

But the sooner we all understand solar power, the sooner we can effect a change.

P.S. If you feel utterly confused right now, try sketching this all out on paper. If you ever need to choose a portable solar power device to suit your needs, this information may be very important for you. If you still feel confused after sketching it out, contact me and I will try to make my article clearer!

The True Test Of Portable Water Filters

Hikers and campers have learned that it is easier and more convenient to carry a portable water filter than it is to carry a lot of heavy bottles of water. Having enough clean, pure water while hiking or camping is an important health consideration and filling up buckets from a nearby lake or stream may not be the safest way to supply the needs. Regardless of how clean the water may appear, it should be filtered before drinking if not boiled to kill any disease-causing bacteria floating around in the water.

Staying hydrated is also an important need for those on extended bicycle rides and carrying a gallon or two on a bike can be troublesome. Having a portable water filter is the best thing a bicycle rider can do to make sure they always have access to a fresh water supply. Whether it is a filtering system built into their water bottle or a separate system through which water from a stream or lake can be processed, making sure they do not become ill from the water is a priority.

Ionic Absorption is one method many companies use to purify water. Electrolysis is another and small water bottles with a purification system built into the tops are popular among many of those who love the outdoors. However, a berkey water filter is also beneficial in that filtered water is easier to purify and removes most of the suspended particles before the water goes through the purifier.

A portable water filter may include a pitcher with a filtering system in place. Simply add water to the pitcher and the filter can remove many of the contaminants from the water as it passes through the filter. Water that is heavily laden with bacteria still may not be safe to drink if the filtration of the water is so large it allows the bacteria to pass through.

Most bacteria that threaten water supplies is larger than one micron and a portable water filter that filters to that size will generally remove all bacteria from the water. Generally, the more effective portable water filters, such as the Big Berkey and Crown Berkey, are gravity-fed so that the bacteria and sediment are not forced through the filter by water pressure. This process of slowing the flow rate or time of exposure through the filter has been calculated to yield the greatest volume removal of toxic chemicals caused by pollution from industry and agriculture.

Although water can be filtered to remove all bacteria and sediment, not all odors will be eliminated, regardless of the quality or cost of a portable water filter. Water in this condition will require special treatment that filtering and purification help.

Family Camping Vacations

Wanted to go somewhere before? Probably. Looked at hotels, and then decided not to venture out of the house after all? Probably. Acceptable prices are hard to come upon these days. Many times hotels do not let you have more than four or five people in a room; this is fine if you have less than two kids, but if you have more, it can be quite exasperating. Is there an inexpensive way to house your family? There is, and it is a great alternative even serving two purposes.

What is this inexpensive method of housing you ask? It is camping. This can sound a bit strange at first, using camping as an alternative to hotels. Does it sound like too much of a pain? It is really not so bad as it first might appear. Too much extra material to carry around with you? The only large thing which you will need is a tent and a sleeping bag for each person; all packed easily into the back of an SUV or minivan.

The best place to camp, if there is one in the proximity where you plan to go to, is in a national park. These are generally around 20 dollars a night; amazingly cheap compared to hotels. Privately owned campgrounds are somewhat more expensive; generally around 40 to 50 dollars.

You will naturally need a family camping tent. This has to be able to endure the type of weather you plan on camping in, and it must give sufficient space to everyone you plan to bring (normally, if the manufacturer specifies the amount of people a tent can fit, you want to get one with one more person than specified). You probably do not wish something which is difficult to set up.

Campgrounds can also offer downtime activities. Most have a variety of relaxing pastimes, whether that is hiking, canoeing, swimming, or other such things. This can be great if you want a break from whatever else you're doing, or if you want a nice relaxed afternoon.

Thus, as you can see, with a small investment in a Family Camping Tent , family holidays and road-trips can be inexpensive and fun.

Pie Iron Cooking Tips and Recipes

A pie iron is a mold made of two aluminum or cast iron bread trays that hinge together and have long handles for cooking over a campfire. A pie iron is ideal for cooking over a campfire as it seals the flavor between two slices of bread. A book of pie iron recipes is a good way to begin your family tradition of pie iron, campfire cooking. Pie irons are fun to use, and make terrific sandwiches and desserts. The variety of scrumptious meals that can be made in a pie iron is endless.

The following are some suggestions on how to put your pie iron to use on your next campfire (and don't forget they work great in fire places, on wood stoves, on grills, and even on your kitchen range). Today campers make hobo pies and grilled sandwiches in pie irons that are inserted right into the campfire. You place a filled pie iron over coals (not directly in the fire) or on a grate over a less-hot area of your campfire turning every 3-5 minutes. After the pie iron has cooked for approx 5 minutes on each side, gently open the pie iron to check its progress. Below are two of my favorite pie iron recipes that can be a complete meal. All you need is some bread, some butter, a can of pizza sauce, some shredded cheese, and a can of pie filling.

For the main course, we will be preparing some pie iron pizza! Start by buttering both sides of two slices of bread. Open the pie iron and place one slice of bread in each half of the pie iron. Spoon some pizza sauce on one of the slices of bread. Next, sprinkle some shredded cheese on top of the pizza sauce. Finally, take the other slice of bread and place it on top of the "pizza." Now, close the pie iron tightly and clamp the handles together. Place the filled pie iron over the coals (not directly in the fire) or on a grate over a less-hot area of your campfire turning every 3-5 minutes. After about 5-7 minutes, open the pie iron and check each side of the pizza. You want the bread to be toasted a golden brown with the cheese all melted and gooey. Remove the pizza and enjoy!

For dessert, we will be making a fruit pie. I love blueberry pie so I usually have a can of blueberry pie filling but you can choose whichever flavor you like best. Start by buttering both sides of two slices of bread. Open the pie iron and place one slice of bread in each half of the pie iron. Spoon some pie filling on one of the slices of bread. Don't put too much pie filling that it oozes over the side, but make sure you fill it fairly good. Finally, take the other slice of bread and place it on top of the "pie." Now, close the pie iron tightly and clamp the handles together. Place the filled pie iron over the coals (not directly in the fire) or on a grate over a less-hot area of your campfire turning every 3-5 minutes. After about 5-7 minutes, open the pie iron and check each side of the fruit pie. You want the bread to be toasted a golden brown with the fruit filling hot and steamy. Remove the pie and enjoy!

These are the basics for pie iron cooking. You are limited only by your imagination. Instead of pie filling, try chocolate and peanut butter, or chocolate and marshmallow. For breakfast, add some egg to make a complete breakfast. You certainly can't go wrong cooking in a pie iron!

The Right Camping Tent

Camping with your family can do lots of god things. First Camping is an inexpensive alternative to hotels for you and your family. You pay a much smaller sum for one night at a camping ground than at a motel. Many campgrounds also have a multiplicity of relaxing activities in addition; things like swimming, canoeing, hiking, and river-wading. It is also pleasant to get away from the hasty bustle that Civilization imposes on you every once in a while.

One of the obvious things, which you need, is a tent. It can be rather hard to find camping tents for families.

There are some things which you must consider when picking a tent. Size is one of them. Do you have kids? If so, how many? Make sure that at least all your sleeping bags can fit on the tent floor.

Another thing which you should think about is weather. If it is probably going to rain, or if there is wind, then you may wish to get a somewhat weather and water proof tent.

How much work do you want to into the raising of the tent every time you arrive at a new campground? You probably want something simple, particularly if you have children. It is not fun, trust me, to set a tent up by flashlight after arriving at a campground after dark.

As soon as you buy a tent, you should chek to see that it is properly adjusted to your journey. It is wise to examine it after purchase and find whether it is useable or not. You do not want to arrive at a camp site, pile out the family, and find that the tent is too small, broken, or in some other way lacking.

Camping is a great family experience, and you can improve it greatly by finding the perfect Family Camping Tent .

Mosquito Bites - Are you Alergic

Mosquito Bite Allergy

If you are like most people with sensitive skin, you may find that you have a mosquito bite allergy. A mosquito bite allergy will appear as a very red swollen and itchy bump or bumps where mosquitoes have bitten. The allergic reaction is a reaction to the digestive enzymes and anti-coagulants that the female mosquito injects before sucking blood from your body.

For the most part, children and adolescents are more likely to have a mosquito bite allergy than adults who have become immune to the mosquito’s saliva. Sometimes if you have gone long period of time without being bitten, you will suffer an allergic reaction the first time you are bit again. Also, the first bite might not affect you, but if you are repeatedly bit, the subsequent bites will begin to show an allergic reaction.

If you are one of the many who suffer from a mosquito bite allergy, there are a few preventative things you can do to avoid being bitten, such as using repellent or netting, or wearing long pants and long sleeved shirts that cover your arms and neck area. If you have already been bitten, topical anti-itch creams and lotions can help soothe the itching, and aspirin and cold compresses may cool the area.
